Sabarmati Ashram, home of the great leader and
the father of the nation of India Mahatma Gandhi, formerly called
the Satyagraha Ashram. This place has been a witness to many
historical events that shook up the Indian history and led to the
path of freedom for India. Ashram was set up in 1915, this Ashram
has also been a example of a model community based on rules and
values. Ashram is situated about 5 km from the center of Ahmedabad,
on the west bank of Sabarmati river.
Now the ashram hosts a large number of original manuscripts that
were written by Mahatma Gandhi. This place plays an important part
in the mind of the people who have lived the life in this free
country with the story for the freedom of India starting from here.
This museum offers large number of paintings for the great Mahatma
Gandhi and also letters, articles, negatives of his pictures, and
enormous number of films on Gandhiji. Sabarmati Ashram also have a
library that stores over 30,000 books and 155 letters of
felicitation that were received by Mahatma Gandhi besides
miscellaneous memorabilia comprising of coins, postal stamps etc. on
display.
