N.C. Mehta Museum is a very important museum out
of all the Indian museums as the collection that is stored in the
N.C.Mehta Museum society is very unique as it contains important
collection of pahadi miniatures & the famous chaurpanchashika
series. Chaurpanchasika series has been displayed only at N.C.Mehta
gallery and cannot be found at display across the world. Pandit
Jawaharlal Nehru the first prime minister of India inaugurated the
first exhibition in 1963, since that day till today this museum has
added a lot to its reputation and collection.
Late Shri Nanalal C.Mehta, after whom this famous museum is named,
was the master in the field of a very difficult and vanishing art of
Indian miniature paintings. The main objective of this museum is to
preserve the invaluable collection of paintings, increase art
appreciation in India and to promote its study and research in
India. Indian miniatures that are on display here include the
illustration of sacred and secular works, compositions, Ragamala
paintings, portraits and social scenes.
